An interesting article in the Guardian about surfing in Scarborough here, featuring local boys James Turner and Steve Crawford. The world's catching on it seems (although I'm not sure this is a good thing – I could be wrong).
What I find interesting is that the Yorkshire coast was once considered a premier venue for fishing for blue-fin tuna. I'd heard about members of the royal family (spit) fishing out of Staithes in the thirties, and always intended to find out more.
One more thing. I've been surfing Scarborough and surrounding areas for twenty years and I've never seen a single porpoise. I feel cheated.
