According to Parko, this was meant to be the Championship Tour winning movie they had waiting in the wings ready to spit the minute he won the gong, but, as you'll most likely now be aware, he fell in the dying seconds of his heat, going over the falls on what was undoubtedly the most important wave of his life, allowing his bezzy mate to hoist the world title trophy in the process. Poor fella. He'd given it his all and failed at the final hurdle, but still had the good grace to carry Mick over the sand at the end. A good egg indeed.
I was rooting for him in the end, and not simply because he answered my question on his blog, no, it was his style and sportsmanship that won me over – BUT, I still want to see Slater get his 10th next year.
Rest your peepers on this as Parko answers my question I posted on his blog for all the world to see! I howled when I saw this. It's the second one in, just under half way through by 'UK Dave', the name I'd decided to adopt – for reasons that shall remain a complete mystery, even to me!
This all came about when a week or so back they were asking for questions to put to the possibly/maybe/imminently-to-be-crowned world champion (we'll know in a couple of weeks after Pipe). So I hit him up with "When was the last time you were significantly afraid in the ocean?" A good question I thought, and you'd be right, Parko thought so too, look he says so, but he also laughs in a slightly 'awww-some-kid-from-the-UK-has-asked-a-little-question' kind of a way — I'M 36!!!! Hah, funny!
But seriously though, thanks JP, and soopa-good luck in Hawaii!!!
